Ragas

The ragas of Northern Indian classical music take this pure mathematical resonance to its highest level. Each raga is composed of a different musical scale or mode made up from variants of the seven basic notes and adheres to very strict rules of aesthetics and musicianship. The ragas manifest the collective power of notes and at a deeper aesthetic and subtle level, awaken and then nourish the essential qualities of the different centres and their elements, such as peace, confidence and one-ness.

In the hands of a master, the transcendental power of music can take us into a very deep state of meditation known as ‘thoughtless awareness’ or Nirvichara Samadhi. In this state of being the individual can effect a real personal transformation and growth. In this way music can have a profound effect not only on our health and well-being, but also on the world around us.
